Changing jobs can feel like progress.
But if you haven’t figured out what isn’t working,
you might just carry the same problem with you.
I was feeling frantic.
I updated my resume.
Started sending it out.
Took recruiter calls.
Interviewed for roles that sounded good…
…but I wasn’t sure they were what I actually wanted.
No strategy. Just movement.
When we feel uncertainty in our careers, many of us try to fix it.
“I must need a new job. That will solve this feeling.”
But the feeling usually isn’t that simple.
Maybe you look successful on paper, but don’t feel that happy with what you do.
Or when people ask what you do, you feel bored saying it.
Maybe you’re increasingly annoyed with your boss.
Or hearing rumors about layoffs.
Maybe you have been let go and are in between jobs.
Or just feeling completely burned out.
Some of us try to take action… anything to move forward.
But what if the better first step isn’t action…
it’s to pause and sit in the uncertainty for a bit.
And ask yourself the harder questions:
What’s not working right now?
And what would I want instead?
